We can usually learn much more from people whose views we share than from people whose views contradict our own.
Learning is a continuous process and has no bounds in terms of its sources. The people to whom we share our views can help us to gain our knowledge and enhance our learning. The people whose views contradict from our views can help us in identifying and rectifying our concepts and hence again enhancing the knowledge. So we can learn not only from people whose views we share but also from people whose views contradict our own.
Learning is a cumulative process and with healthy discussion with people we can understand the things in a better way. If a person do only self learning, he can think only in one aspect. Discussion of his learning with the person to whom he share will provides him different aspects of learning on the same issue. Along with that if he argues with the person having contradictory views, it will help him to know all positive and negative aspects and he can make improvements in his learning according to that.
For an example in an debate both in favor and in against candidates present their views on an certain issue. A person sitting in the audience should listen both the aspects on the issue and after listening he can make his own opinion including all if and pros on that particular issue. Thus he can learn from both type of people.
While discussing from a person whose views are contradicting from us, we should be careful in learning because it is also possible they can provide us false information which will certainly degrade our knowledge and learning. So we should be very cautious while learning from these people and should learn only good things from them.
Thus for learning we cannot bound the sources of information, instead of that we should include both type of person i.e. from whom we share the views and from people whose views contradict our own. It will help us in better learning and we can gain and improve a lot.
