Studying abroad has been a more and more popular choice for students in developing countries like China and India, especially when the destination is developed countries like America. In the waves of studying abroad some students afforded the expense on themselves through various scholarships while some others got financial aid from their family. Currently it is contended that colleges and universities should require their students to spend at least one semester studying abroad. In my view, colleges and universities should provide the chance and corresponding financial aid to students and leave the option to students whether to study abroad.

Firstly, there is surely positive effect in that colleges students go abroad to study for some time. By living in another country on themselves, students can be trained to be independent from their parents, which could be preparation for them before entering the society. Study in a foreign country can also broaden one's horizon in the process of living in another culture. Advanced technology and knowledge can also be absorbed conveniently. What's more, there is also chance for them to make foreign friends. From this perspective, studying abroad for some time is undoubtedly beneficial to college and university students.

However, there also exists negative aspects in this practice. If every students are required to study abroad for at least one semester, their study plan would be interrupted and they could be rather unfamiliar with their original courses after returning to class. Some reticent students who tend to reserve themselves might be confronted with deep solitude problems in an alien environment which could be totally different from their hometown. In this case, to study abroad alone could be a tough take for some students. Moreover, it is possible that students run into dangerous situations and their lives are threatened in some occasions like burglary and robbing if they study in country or cities with high crime rates. From this perspective, to demand every student to study abroad would be of risks.

Furthermore, the cost of peremptory studying abroad might be a great financial burden for some families. As economic imbalance may exists between different regions, families from regions where economic situation is less developed might face difficulty at the expense of the cost of studying and living abroad for months. Under such circumstance it is the colleges and universities who should provide sufficient chance for students to learn abroad and afford the expense of studying in a foreign country, as colleges and universities with abundant student who possess foreign learning experience would be highly competitive and intellectually productive. It is certainly that the option of whether to study abroad should be provided to students themselves so that they themselves can balance of benefits and challenges and make the optimal choice for themselves.

In sum, colleges and universities should provide chances and expenses for students to study abroad while the choice of whether to learn in a foreign country should be made by the students themselves.
