The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
This line graph shows the amount of goods transported via various transport method from 1974 to 2002.It clearly shows, goods transported by roadways was the highest of all other transports which include waterways, railways and via pipeline. It increased from 70 million tonnes in 1974 to about 100 million tonnes in 2002.
In 1974, there was a tremendous change in the amount of materials transported by railways and waterways. Both started with the same amount of materials of 40 million tonnes in 1974, but there were sudden rise in transporting via waterways until 1982 and remained steady for almost ten years. In contrast, amount of materials transported via rail showed steep downward trend for four years which was below 40 million tonnes.
Transporting via railways seems to be fluctuated throughout the years while there was a steady increase in transporting through pipeline even though it was the least method of transporting.
Overall, goods transported via roadways were the highest when comparing to other method of transports.
