Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic problems and pollution problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
What other measures do you think might be effective?
Apparently, traffic jams and pollution are among the most pressing problems nowadays. Regarding this fact, an overwhelming majority of people are of the opinion that raising the prices of petrol would produce beneficial results for the whole society. As far as I am concerned, this solution seems to be unsuccessful due to its adverse influence on the people, so in this essay I will endeavour to shed some light on my viewpoint and give some other suggestions.
To begin with, the advocates of abovementioned notion hold the view that by applying the policy which increases the prices of petrol we can prevent people from using their cars so frequently. Consequently, having less used cars will lead to great decrease in traffic jams and other problems related to them. However, taking into account the unequal distribution of income in the society it seems to be unfair towards families with lower income.
Additionally, petrol is utilized not only by cars, but also in other vehicles such as airplanes or as raw material so as to produce various stuff. Therefore, making prices unaffordable and expensive will greatly impact the economy of the country.
Last but not least, we should subscribe to the idea that instead of implementing this policy, we can benefit from other measures such as encouraging people to use public transport, widening the roads and so forth. Modern city planning methods are good cases in point. In some countries, city planners tend to replace necessary buildings, edifices, schools and offices separately from each other and avoid traffic jams especially during rush hours.
To put all things in a nutshell, I am confident to restate that increasing the cost of petrol does not seem to be a good idea, therefore, governments should take other measures like the ones which I mentioned above.
