With recent developments in technology like e-books, some people feel that printed media like books, newspapers and magazines will soon be a thing of the past.
Other feel that these form of media will never disappear.
What is your opinion?

In recent years, technology has been so widespread that we have all seen many hi-tech products entering the market, such as i-books, i-pads, i-phones and manny more. Many people think, although this seems not be happening yet, that due to the increasing development of technology, printed media like books, newspapers and magazines are going soon to be forgotten while others on the other side, believe this will never happen. It is difficult to predict if this loss will occur or not; however, I definitively agree with those who feel that printed press are going to disappear for several reasons.

First of all, at the moment information travels much faster and more efficiently than in the past as a result of technology improvements, we now receive news directly to our portable devices. So for instance, people in the past would use to buy a newspaper, can easily today download an app onto his/her smartphone receiving and consulting information straight away on the device.

Moreover, internet connection is becoming so widespread that in a short time, it is even predicted to be available in our underground and in this case I can easily imagine "METRO" and EVENING STANDARD" copies disappearing form the trains to be replaced by the much cheaper and "cleaner" web version into all our diverse i-pad, i-phones and other devices. In addition, newspaper companies and the writes in general can finally see a reduction in printing costs which affect sales and therefore profits. In this sense many newspapers have already chosen to work exclusively on the web.

Finally, another noteworthy aspect is the environmental impact which is considerably reduced. We will not see the waste of paper we are nowadays used to. We just need to think about all the tube lines in the morning and the evenings after all passengers have been provided with a daily free newspaper... there will not be tons of copies lying around everywhere.

For all those reasons, I believe that soon we will be able to think about printed media as a memory of the past as this is just going to make everyone's lives easier and because at the same time this will, even partially contribute reducing the environmental damage.
