The first table indicates the consequences of the survey which was based on why UK citizens travelled to other countries over a period of four years between 1994 and 1998. Another table illustrates which parts of the world are preferred for visiting by those people over the same period.

Initially, holiday was the most popular reason to go abroad which increased from 15.246 in 1994 to 20.700 in 1998. Furthermore, it was nearly 5 times as much as the business, although the second greatest number of visitors” purpose was business. By contrast, the gap between business and visits to friend and relatives had not widened so much. Finally, other reasons was the least popular which affected some fluctuations.

According to the second chart, Western Europe was chosen most and this trend was upward over the whole period being from 19.371 in 1994 to 24.519 in 1998, despite from 1994 to 1995 when the number of travellers in total decreased and as a result, this leaded to the downward trend in almost all statistics. In contrast to this, the number of citizens who went to North America and other areas was 20 and 19 times less than Western Europe being from 919 to 1.823 and from 1.782 to 2.486 respectively.

Overall, number of visitors in total rose 6.756 over the same period and of those with all purposes and destinations. This is evidence of increasing of interest in travelling and standards of living in UK.
