The chart shows the gender distribution of Australians who did regular physical activity across six different age groups in 2010.
In general, the graph demonstrates that while female Australians exercised more frequently than males in most age categories with a substantial gender gap, there was no significant difference in the distribution of those aged 65 and higher.
Regarding the male group, men aged 15 to 24 years old were the only age group in which men exceeded women, with a percentage of 52.8. However, Australian males between 25 to 44 years old were less engaged in physical exercise, with just 39.5 percent of men aged 35 to 44 interested in physical activity. The number of males exercising regularly increased with age, reaching 46.7 percent in the group 65 and over.
Looking specifically at the female group, the percentage of those doing regular physical activity increased gradually over the first four age groups, rising from 47.7 percent to 53.3 percent in the 45 to 54 age group. Australian women in two older groups were less physically active, with the number dropping to 47.1 percent in the group 65 and older.
