The bar chart below shows the top ten countries for the production and consumption of electricity in 2014.
The bar graph depicts the amount of electricity produced and consumed by the world’s top ten energy users in 2014. The scale is in billions.
First of all, in 2014, China was the world leader in electricity production and consumption, with over 5000 kWh for each. The USA was in second place, producing and consuming about one-fifth less than China. Russia was the third country with figures crossing 1000 kWh and it utilized almost all the energy that was produced. On the other hand, the last country on the list was Korea Republic with production of 485.1 kWh and consumption of 449.5 kWh, and it was almost half of Japan (fourth on list).
Secondly, France and Brazil (the seventh and eight-placed countries) both produced and consumed similar amounts of electricity at around 550 kWh and 450 kWh for production and consumption respectively. India had the highest difference of 170 kWh. Interestingly, the penultimate country, Germany, consumed more energy than it could generate (526.6 kWh) and the difference was more than 50 kWh.
Overall, it is clear to see that China and the USA produced and consumed significantly more electricity than any other country. Noticeably, Germany was the only country in the Top 10 that consumed more electricity than it produced.
