The pie charts compare the proportion of water used for industrial, agricultural and domestic purposes in six different regions across the globe.
It is evident that agriculture consumed the largest quantity of water in Asia , Africa and South America, while in Europe and North America industrial use of water was significant.
In terms of agricultural consumption of water ,Central Asia consumed the most (88%),followed by Africa and South East Asia ,for which figures stood more than the three quarters.Domestic and industrial use ,in contrast,remained low around 10% in these three regions.Water usage in agriculture sector in South America was fairly large, just below two-thirds of total consumption.However,domestic use accounted for about one fifth and industry consumed only 10 %.
Europe and North America used a large proportion of water,approximately 50% in industry. Agriculture accounted for more than a quarter of water usage ,whereas,domestic use remained below 20%.
Thus , in different regions the percentage of water consumption in the three sectors was variable.
