The chart andgraph below give information about participants who have entered
the Olympics since it began
The given graph and chart provide information regarding the number of Olympic participants according to their gender over a period of nearly a century, from 1924 to 2012. As can be observed, the general trend was of an increase with women having a more significant rise. Despite this, there had always been more males than females taking part in the games.
Taking a close look at the charts, there was a gradual increase from 3000 to 5000 Olympic partakers in which males accounted for a vast majority with 4500 by 1952. This means that females hardly entered the games. Over 3 decades later, even though the number of female athletes witnessed a more considerable upsurge to 1500 out of 7000 in total, it, however, was only one-third as high as the figure for males, with 5200.
By 2012, while male partakers had kept a steady upward trend and peaked at nearly 6000, females recorded a more dramatic climb. Particularly, it had soared by three-fold to hit the highest point of roughly 4800, making the total number of attendants surge to over 10 000 by the end of the period.
