Overall, the chart shows that urban areas are expected to double from 1950 to 2023. Meanwhile, the worldwide population is projected to increase by more than 50%. This indicates that urbanization is likely to continue to rise in the upcoming years.
It can be seen that in 1950, Africa and Asia accounted for at least 12% and 14% of the total population respectively. Moreover, there was just under a third of the population in the world in 1950. In contrast, Latin America had the highest level, accounting for 42% of the population. Africa’s population and Asia’s population in 2000 showed the same level at around 47%. While Latin America increased sharply by 20%, compared with the entire world's population of approximately 50%.
The whole world is expected to rise from 50% to 60% in 2023. While, Latin American is projected to grow by 10%, the highest rate of growth ever recorded.
