The chart below gives information about how families in one country spent their weekly income in 1968 and in 2018. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make relevant comparisons.

The chart depicts how families in one given country spent their income per week between 1968 and 2018.
Overall, it is clearly that in 1968 food occupied most of the families’ expenditure . In contrast, the most prominent sector was leisure in 2018.
In 1968, spending on food accounted for 35% of the income while housing, clothing and footwear was about the same, each accounted for 10%. Spending on personal and household goods was marginally lower than that on transportation and recreation, which came in at 8% and 9%, respectively. For fuel and power, they only spend 6% of their income.
The rate of weekly food expenditure had dropped from 35% to 17% by 2018. Similar decreases in expenditure were seen for clothing and footwear, from 10% to 5% and from 8% to 4% for personal goods. A decline of roughly 2-3% is also seen in the weekly cost of fuel and power. The expenditure on housing, transport and leisure, on the other hand, rose by 8%, 5%, and 12%, respectively. It is important to emphasize that household goods expenditure remained constant at 8% during the course of the two years.
