The graph below shows the number of shops that closed and the number of new shops that opened in one country between 2011 and 2018. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make relevant comparisons where relevant.
The line graph illustrates the number of store which were set up and others those shut down in a particular country from the year 2011 to 2018.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that both the opening and closure rates experienced a declining trend with significant fluctuation during the said period.
To begin with, closures registered at around 6500 in 2011, which was less than that of store openings. Howerver, the figure fell slightly and reached 6000 in 2012. Turning to the next two years, there are over 7000 closures in 2013 before decreasing to approximately 6600 in 2014. Interestingly, the year 2015 witnessed dramatic drop in the number of store that closed, plummeting to just under 1000. After that, there was not any remarkable movement, the closure rate sharply picked up, reaching around 5000 and maintaining that figure until 2018.
To continue, in the initial year, 8500 shops had been opened, which was the peak point in the given period and higher than the 6200 closures. Over the next three years, the number of openings reduce to a low of 4000 but gradually recovered to 6100 in 2014, almost the same level as closures. Howbeit, a decline was observed in 2015 and the numbers remained steady for the following three years, at around 4000 shops per year. Withal, as a result of a downward trend, the rate of new store openings reaching 3000 in 2018, emerging as the low point of the two categories.
