The chart illustrates a survey result, conducted in New Zealand in 2002, comparing between boys and girls in terms of nine different categories of sports in which they take part.
It is noticeable that the proportion of women partaking in netball activity was significantly larger than any other ones. By contrast, New Zealand men mainly enjoyed playing soccer rather than netball.
Looking at the information in more details, above 25% of girls participating in netball games, which was well over twice as high as those for any other types of sport, except for swimming. Despite a marginal number of boys playing netball, roughly 25% of them spent time on soccer activities, which was almost double the figure for swimming. In fact, the percentage of women going swimming was drastically higher than their men counterparts by 10%.
Notably, there were no such huge gaps between both genders in respect of basketball, tennis and athletics played in 2002. However, the figures for boys were slightly higher than those of girls with regard to basketball as well as tennis, by around 2%. Meanwhile, 10% of New Zealand females chose to spend time on other sports rather than cricket games, which was seen only a negligible amount.
