The provided bar chart compares the proportion of the British people donating to charity in 1990 and in 2010. The surveyed people are grouped according to their age.

Overall, a significant decrease in the proportion of the youngest Brits donating to charity was noted, while the middle-age groups suffered a moderate decline. However, the Older Brits (51 to over 65) were more likely to do donate in 2010 than 20 years earlier.

A closer look at the data reveals that in 1990, British citizens between 36 and 50 years old were the group with the highest proportion of charitable donations (over 40%). However, the youngest Brits (18-25) were the least likely to give money to charity, with just little over 15% of the people from this group reporting donations in 1990. All the other age groups were in the 30%-35% percent range.

In 2010, more mature-aged citizens were the biggest benefactors, with 40% rate in the age group 51-65. Elderly people (over 65) were at 35%, which is the same value as for the middle aged people (36-50), who used to be the most generous group some twenty years ago. The biggest drop was marked within the youngest Brits, were only 5% reported giving to charity, which is the lowest value in 2010.
