The chart below gives information on the percentage of British people giving money to charity by age range for the years 1990 and 2010.
The chart shows the level of donations among British people according to age between 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the percentages of people making charitable donations before and after the age of 50 share different patterns. There was a decrease in the figure for people aged 18-50, while that of people aged over 50 witnessed an opposite trend.
In 1990 the proportion of the British in the age group of 36-50 donating money was the highest, at 42%, while the 18-25s contributed the least, at only 17%. However, by 2010, these figures had declined significantly to 35% and 5% respectively. The percentages of people contributing money in the 26-35 age group experienced a considerable decrease between 1990 and 2010, from 31% to 24%.
While donations up to the age of 50 declined across the two years, they rose among the 51-65 age-group from 35% to nearly 40%, which was the highest figure in 2010. The figure for people who were over 65s in 2010 was lower than this, but it was still a little higher than the 1990 figure, at 32%.
