The chart below shows the different levels of post-school qualifications in Australia and the proportion of men and women who held them in1999.

The chart illustrates information about levels of post-school qualifications which have been held by men and women in Australia in 1999.

To begin with, at the lowest post-school qualification there was the biggest gender difference, the share of men was higher so that 90% of men held skilled vocational diploma in comparison with 10% of women. By contrast more women earned undergraduate diploma (70%) and bachelor’s degree (55%).

At higher levels of post-school qualifications men took an advantage from women. Proportions show that at postgraduate diploma and master`s degree the contribution of men were 70% and 60% respectively. Whereas on the other hand, women were less interested in higher education at the same degrees.

To sum up, the proportion of men in lower and higher education was larger compared to women, while in contrast, women were more at undergraduate diploma than their female counterparts. In addition, at bachelor`s degree there was the smallest gender difference.
