The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport

The given chart illustrates the amounts of trips taken via 5 different transportation methods (car passenger, walking, cycling,walking and bus, and bus only) by school going children in two different years, 1990 and 2010. The amount unit is indicated by millions per year.

Overall, it can be seen that walking was the most popular mode in 1990 which was replaced by car rides in 2010. Conversely, riding to school on car was the least sought after mode in 1990, whereas cycling took the last place in 2010.

Looking into the more healthier means of traveling, we can see that this trend declined over the years as just over 12 million walking journeys to school, annually, halved in 2010. Where walking ended, cycling started in 2002, dropping to a meager number of 2 million trips. Clubbing communal transportation into this category, a similar downward, but not as drastic, movement is seen for buses (and walking) from roughly 7 (6) million to 5 (3) million.

On the other hand, fuel powered modes of transportation became more sought after with time. Prime example being the car trips to school, soaring to 2010's peak of 11 million from the bottom of about 4.25 million in 1990.
