Overall, it can be seen that light trail and bus accounted the most number of accidents in 2002 while injuries related to commuting using a bus was more common. It is also clear that the given incidents required more response than the injuries during the same year.
In detail, in 2002, the highest number of transportation incidents was observed for light rail and bus with a similar rate of about 75 Million per passenger miles travelled (PMT). This was followed by commuting on a heavy rail which had 50 Million per PMT while commuter rail had about 20 Million per PMT which was about 50 Million less than that of the incidence rate for light rail and bus.
Concurrently, injuries that happened while riding a bus occurred the most with about 60 Million per PMT. This was followed by light and heavy rail which had about 40 Million per PMT while injuries related to commuter rail posted the least number at about 20 Million per PMT. By comparison, this figure is similar to that of the accidents on the same rail. Meanwhile, transportation related incidences demanded more response with over 250 Million per PMT than the injuries having only about 175 Million per PMT.
