The bar chart illustrates how employed adults spent their day in a particular country over a 50-year period.
It can be clearly seen from the chart that people who got a job used most of their time to work and sleep. In addition, staying at home seemed to be the best option for relaxing among working individuals.
In 1958, the amount of time for working accounted for 33%, which was roughly similar with that for sleeping, at 32%. Subsequently, there was a significant rise of 42% of the percentage of day for working while the figure for sleeping went down by around 10% in 2008. Moreover, the proportion of time to commute to work also rose from 2% to 8%.
Employers devoted 19% of their time to hanging out with friends and family, compared to 8% and 6%, which was the figure for relaxing at home and other, respectively. Fifty years later, there was a reverse with the trend, the percentage of time for hanging out fell dramatically by 13%, while that for staying at home to relax increased to 13%, and the figure for other remained stable.
