The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The bar chart represents the information about the proportion of the houses which are rented and owned by the people in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. All the units are measured in percentage.
Overall, it is apparent that the number of households owned by the people is accelerating. On the other hand, the graph demonstrated a downward trend in the rented accommodation.
It is conspicuous that in 1918, over one-fifth of people chose to buy the house and nearly four-fifths of people prefer to rent the place. In addition to this, the rate of owned accommodation dramatically surged throughout the period. Initially, the people who owned the house were about 22% which overwhelmingly soared by the end of the timeframe. However, in 1971, the percentage of owned houses, as well as rented accommodations, were identical to each other with 50%. On top of that, over the years, the rate of rented household accommodation plummeted from nearly 78% to 37%. Interestingly, the percentage of rented accommodation witnessed minor growth of about 6% from 2001 to 2011.
