The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The provided bar chart display the proportion of households owning and renting accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.
In general, whilst the percentage of households renting accommodation saw a decrease overtime, that of households in owned accommodation was on an upward trajectory.
At the beginning of the period, nearly 80% of households in England and Wales rented accommodation. However, this figure experienced a decrease to below 70% in 1939. After levelling off in 1953, it dwindled significantly in the following years and hit a low of just over 30% in 2001 before rising to about 35% in the following ten years, equaling over half of that of households in owned accommodation.
It can also be seen from the chart that the percentage of families with private accommodation was over 20% in 1918. This number increased to exceed 30% in 1939. Following a period of stability in 1953, it escalated to overtake that of households renting accommodation in 1981 and reach its peak of nearly in 2001. However, this statistic saw a decline to around 64% at the end of the timeline.
