The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011

The chart gives information about the proportion of how much people possessed or rented a house for staying from 1918 to 2011 in England and Wales.
Overall, number of people who rented households were the highest at the beginning of the period while the owned ones were reached to top at the end. Also, there were equality in the percentage of owned and rented houses in 1971.
In the first half of the century period, owned accommodation rates were increased gradually whilst rented housing rates were decreased steadily. In 1918, number of people who had a place for staying was accounted for just under 80%, although houses were hired by people was slightly over 20%. However, percentages of holding and leasing houses were the same in 1971. (approximately 50%)
In the second half of the century period, proportion of households in owned accommodation countinued to increase and it was the highest in 2001 by almost 70% and families rented places less than every year. Also, 2001 was the year which had the lowest percentage of rented accommodations with approximately 30%.
