Essay topics:

The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.

The given bar chart demonstrates the total quantity of minutes (in billions) spent on three different types of telephone calls in the UK during the period 1995-2002.
Overall, for the first five-year period, the duration of all types of phone calls witnessed a significant increase. However, between 1999 and 2002, there was a remarkable drop in the calling minutes of the local landlines.
Looking at the chart in more detail, in 1995, it is clear that the local landline recorded the highest total call time, at over 70 billion minutes. Meanwhile, the length of calls made via national and international - fixed lines and mobiles came second and third in the call list respectively, at 38 billion and 4 billion minutes. During the next four years, the figures for all three types underwent a gradual increase, with the duration of calls using the local-fixed line reaching an all-time high of 90 billion minutes in 1999.
In the period 1999-2002 the amount of time spent on the local landline, however, experienced a significant decrease from 90 billion to its initial point of 72 billion minutes. On the other hand, the duration of calls via national and international -fixed lines, as well as mobiles, continued to rise steadily, reaching in turn 60 billion and 45 billion minutes by the end of the given timeframe.
