Essay topics:

The chart gives information about the number of subscribers using the phone per 100 residents in Africa between 1994 and 2004.

The line chart illustrates how many residents registered to use mobile and fixed-line phones in Africa from 1994 to 2004.
Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that the percentages of subscribers for both mobile and fixed-line phones increased over the period. However, while landlines were the most popular choice at the beginning of the period, cellular phones were significantly more common by the ending of the period.
In 1994, 1.7% of African inhabitants subscribed to fixed-line phones, with only 0.06% of people using mobile phones. Over the four years ensuing, the number of users in both categories experienced a trivial increase. While the proportion of citizens using landlines continued to rise gradually to approximately 3% in 2001, the figure for cellular phones soared and caught up with the rate of fixed-line phones in 2001.
From 2001 onwards, the percentage of mobile phones subscribers still strongly rose and reached a peak of 8.8% in 2004, compared to 3.1% for fixed-line phones supporters in the same year.
