The chart shows the division of household tasks by gender in Great Britain

Essay topics:

The chart shows the division of household tasks by gender in Great Britain.

The bar chart compares the number of minutes that men and women in Great Britain spend on 6 categories of domestic chores.
Overall, women spend more time on those tasks than men do. Men spend more minutes per day than women on gardening/pet care and maintenance/odd jobs, but less time in all other tasks.
Cooking/baking/washing up is the task women spend most of their days on with 74 minutes, compared to 30 minutes for men. There is also a significant difference in terms of cleaning the house/tidying and care of children/play. Women spend a daily average of 58 and 45 minutes respectively on those tasks. In contrast, men spend only 13 minutes and 20 minutes on each of those. In addition, 2 minutes per day is spent by men on clothes/washing/ironing/sewing while women spend 25 minutes each day on this activity.
However, men’s daily involvement in gardening/pet care and maintenance/odd jobs is greater than their female counterparts’. The figure for maintenance/odd jobs is 49.5 minutes for men and 21 minutes for women. Likewise, men spend 26 minutes per day on gardening/pet care, in comparison with nearly 10 minutes for women.
