The chart shows the information about salt intake in the US in 2000.

Overall, the consumption of men outweighed that of women across all age groups in 2000. Besides, while residents who fell into the 20 – 39 age group ingested the largest amount of salt, the opposite was true for children under-6-year-old.

It is discernible that the salt intake of 20 to 39-year-old men and women was the most substantial, with the figure for the former being 4400 and that for the latter standing at 3100. However, only 2000 and 1300 were consumed by boys and girls who aged under 6 respectively. As a result, the salt content in diets of 20 to 39-year-olds exceeded the advisable figure (2500 milligrams) while the under 6 age group was the only group consuming the insufficient amount of salt.

Turning to other age groups’ diets, it is remarkable that the salt intake of 6–11, 12 – 19, 40 – 60, and over 60-year-old American males all exceeded the healthy benchmark for adults, ranging from 3400 to 4300. Interestingly, salt consumption of 6-11, 20-39, and 40-60 equaled at 3000, which was slightly higher than the recommended intake.
