The pie charts illustrate the average proportions of Americans’ nutrition intake, namely sodium, saturated fat and sugar, all of which cause health issues if exceedingly consumed.
Overall, while a huge amount of fat and sodium is found in dinner meals, sugar is reported to be mainly contained in everyday snacks.
Regarding the sodium intake, dinner accounted for the largest percentage, which is exactly 43%. This figure is followed by lunch meals with 29% of sodium consumed by Americans, whereas breakfast and snacks both contributed only 14% of the daily consumption. There is a similar trend for the absorption of saturated fat, with dinner and lunch respectively topping the chart with 37% and 26%. Moreover, the remaining portions belong to breakfast and snacks, with breakfast representing the lowest amount fat of at only 16%. As regards to the sugar intake, there are a few changes in the amount used in meals. First, snacks make up a significant proportion of 42%, which is followed by dinner and lunch with 23% and 19% accordingly. Lastly, breakfast remains a trivial contributor with 16%, making it the healthiest meal among four sectors with 3 nutrient consumptions being all below 20%.
