The two presented pie chart compares 6 distinct sources of energy in terms of the percentage they occupied in a nation’s fuel generation in 1985 and 2003.
Generally, it is evident that oil was the most popular source during this period. Also, except for hydro, substantial changes were witnessed in all other categories.
Turning into detail, in 1985, energy made from oil accounted for 52% of total supply, which was exactly 4 times higher than that of natural gas. However, after 18 years, while fuel generated from natural gas grew significantly to 23%, the figure for oil fell sharply by 13%, but still maintained its first rank among 6 groups. By contrast, energy production using other renewable sources remained the least common generation in both year, with 1% and 4%, respectively.
Regarding to the remaining sources, coal and nuclear were two categories which shared the total percentage of 40% fuel produced in both years. However, energy stemming from nuclear declined from 22% to 8%, whereas an opposite trend was detected in the proportion of coal, which gained from 8% to 22%. Meanwhile, energy generation using hydrogen was kept unchanged at 4% during the period.
