Overall, there is a increasing number of students learning foreign languages. It is noticeable that Spanish accounts for the largest number of learners.
In 2000, the figure for students who are not able to speak other languages was 20%, and decreased by a half after a decade. The same decreasing trend could be observed in the number of French students. Students who can speak French made up of 15% in 2000 but went down to 10% in 2010. Meanwhile, the proportion of German language learners remained the same in the 10-year period.
On the other hand, the number of students who learn to speak Spanish had increased during the period shown, from 30% in 2000 to 35% in 2010. Moreover, we can also see an increase of 5% in the percentages of Britain students learning other languages, except French, German, Spanish.
