Overall, the figures were presented with an upward tendency in opting the private car to and from work in a European nation.

The number of commuters using bus, car, bicycle and walking started at 20%, 7%, roughly 27% and 35% respectively in 1950. There was an significant soar in the proportion of commuters using car from 7% to more than 25% in 1970 before shooting to a peak of roughly 37% in 1990 while the figures for cycling and walking to work witnessed a sharp plunge, respectively halving to around 23%, 17% in 1950 before slumping its troughs of more than 7% and 10% in 1990.
