The diagram below shows the average hours of unpaid work per week done by people in different categories. (Unpaid work refers to such activities as childcare in the home, housework and gardening.)
The graph gives information about the average amount of unpaid work in hours per week done by married men and women in different segments.
Looking from an overall perspective, married women in all categories spent more time a week doing unpaid work when compared with men.
As the chart portrays, 30 hours a week was the time frame for women with no child to take part in unpaid work, while men in the same section spent less than 19 hours doing such a job. Whereas there was a significant variation when having 1-2 offspring, married women invested somewhat more time at 50 hours. This number continued to rise by 10 hours in women who possessed three-plus children. That showed more time on doing unpaid work for women was the consequence of having more children.
Interestingly, the number of unpaid work hours, which men involved were not affected by the increase of their offspring. To be precise, an equal hour spent by men with no child and had 1-2 children for unpaid work, the number even showed a drop in men with more than three kids. It appears that raising children was the women's duty, but not for men.
