The flow chart clearly illustrates the process of how electricity is produced in a hydroelectric power station.
In general, it is apparent that there are five steps involved in the generation of hydroelectricity during the day. The first step of the process is collecting water from river in a high-level reservoir made by a dam which has an open intake at the bottom. This is followed by the flow of water down to the reversible turbines at power station to generate electricity. The third step starts with the turbines operating the generator and the water being recollected in a low-level reservoir. In the final step, after produced by the generator, the electricity is supplied to national grid through power lines.
At night, however, reversible turbines pump the water in the low-level reservoir back into the higher one. The intake is closed as well to block the water. Thus, water can be reused the next day.
