The diagram below shows the process from Australian Bureau of Meteorology of collecting up-to-minute information for the purpose of producting reliable weather forecasts.
Describe the process in detail.
The diagram illustrates the process of weather data collection and forecast production employed by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. The process can be roughly divided into three stages.
At the first stage, the data is collected in the form of satellite photos, radar screen readings, and synoptic charts. According to the diagram, the production of these synoptic charts, too, relies on the information from satellites, radars as well as drifting buoys.
Next, these satellite images, radar readings, charts and data collected are analysed and interpreted in order to make predictions about the weather. All these predictions and information, with the help of personal computers and workstations, are converted into weather forecasts that can be understood by the general public.
Finally, the forecasts are made available to the public in three modalities. People who have access to television can receive weather updates as announcements read by TV presenters. Others can obtain forecasts while listening to the radio. However, those who are interested in weather updates provided on-demand, without having to wait for the scheduled TV and radio announcements, can obtain them by dialing a corresponding number on a phone and listening to pre-recorded messages.
Overall, this process appears to be designed to ensure that the Australian public have access to the most up-to-date and reliable weather forecasts.
