The diagram below shows the stages and equipment used in the process of making matches.
The process of making match sticks involves a well defined series of steps to be performed. The manufacturing process involves machinery like peeler, chopper, tanks, drier, storage area, conveyer belts, and a packaging area. At a higher level, the cycle involves processing of raw wood, attaching chemical tip for ignition, and finally packing the matches.
Firstly, wood logs are peeled using a peeler and the peeled logs are passed through a Chopper. The Chopper cuts the wooden logs into desired shape and size. The chopped logs are then treated with Ammonium Phosphate solution in a tank; which are then sent for drying. The dried logs are then accumulated in a storage using a metal duct after passing through a blower.
Now the logs, of desired shape and size, are moved from storage area onto perforated steel belt; this belt, through its movement carries the logs along with it for chemical treatment. During chemical treatment, paraffin wax and other chemicals are used to make the matches. The tip of the match sticks are finally treated with appropriate chemicals, and the belt moves further to transport the match sticks to the packaging area - here, the manufactured matches are packed, and thus completing the manufacturing process of matches.
