The diagram provides information about how electricity is produced from water which is stored in a hydroelectric dam.
Overall, a hydroelectric dam consists of various parts and machinery which simultaneously work together inorder to generate hydroelectricity.
To start with, water is stored in a reservoir behind the dam and whenever there is a need for the power production, the water is released from the reservoir and passes through the penstock into the turbine below the dam. Just above the turbines is where the powerhouse is situated. It is the main area where the electricity is generated from water using the help of turbines and generator.
To continue, turbines below the powerhouse start rotating in a circular direction with high speed for electricity to be generated from water. The remaining water flows into a river and finally gets merged into a sea or ocean. Now, the hydro power produced is transmitted from the generator in the powerhouse to long distance power lines through high tension cables. From there, electricity is distributed to various parts of the country.
