The given document depicts how prehistoric horses made external changes especially their foot throughout the 40-million-year-period.
Overall, the evolutionary process started 40 million years ago with a kind of animal called Eohippus and finish when it came to the contemporary horses. The most dramatic feature described is foot development
From the original phase, the Eophippus species had a structure of four-toed feet which were comparatively small then. Moreover, there was no fur on the back of Eophippus and they had short tails as well. In the following 10 million years, this animal type evolved into Mesohippus. Especially, they appeared with an inappreciable quantity of fur on their backs and longer tails. In comparison to Eophippus, this new evolution step shows three-toed feet structure with an apparent middle toe.
To become Merychippus, it took 15 million years. There was not much distinct from the previous one except for thicker fur and a prominently bigger and longer shape on the middle toe. For the eventual evolutional period, they are finally called horses as the lasted development. Horses show remarkably transformation on feet when all toes already merged into a hoof. Meanwhile, both fur and tails are observed to be more and longer in size and quantity.
