The diagrams show how glass containers, such as bottles, are produced and recycled.
The first diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing glass containers and the second one shows the steps of recycling glass. Overall, glass is made using 3 raw ingredients and there are 4 main stages in glass production. While it requires 5 steps for turning used glass into new glass.
Looking at the first process, the production of glass starts with mixing three main materials, including sand, soda ash, limestone, and other chemicals. Then, this mixture is heated at an extreme temperature of approximately 1500C in the glass furnace to produce molten glass. After that, the molten glass is shaped by blowing in the shaping step to create the end products, which are called glass containers.
Turning to the second diagram, the collection of used glass is collected to commence the process. Next, it is classified according to its color and then moved into the washing stage in order to eliminate impurities. In the fourth stage, the glass is crushed and melted for the purpose of moulding into new items in the last period.
