The given table presents information about how many million tons of coal used by the UK’s major energy consumers in the period between 1975 and 2000. Overall, the total coal consumption in the UK experienced a downward trend over the period, and the biggest coal consumer was Power stations, while Services had the smallest share in coal consumption.
Looking at the details, according to the user category, Power stations consumed the largest quality compared with the others approximately 60% of the total consumption at 77.2 million tons in 1975. In the following years, Power stations remained the largest coal consumer and reach a peak at 89.6 million tons in 1980. After that quality of coal used for power production decreased significantly to 47.1 million tons, nearly a half of the maximum quality of coal ever used.
There was a similarity in coal use in other sectors. In 1970, the record of coal consumption for UK economy was recorded at 121.2 million tons, over 25 years the coal consumption fell to just over a half compared to the first year in the statistic. In 1970 there was a year when quality of coal was consumed with the largest number in Domestic, Industry and Services at 20.2, 19.6 and 4.2 million tons, respectively. The quality of coal consumed in these economic sectors dramatically dropped to 2.6 million tons in Domestic, 3.2 million tons in Industry and 0.6 million tons in Services, almost 8 times, 6 times and 7 times less in 2000, respectively.
