The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use

Essay topics:

The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.

The pie charts compare the energy expenditure in a normal household for distinct purposes in Australia and greenhouse gas emission profile which is produced as a result of this.
Overall, a majority of energy is spent on heating. This also generates the most emissions compared to other uses.
An average Australian family spends most of their energy on heating, particularly 30% on water heating and 42% on other heating activities. Despite a large amount of energy spending in relative terms, heating only results in 15% of greenhouse emissions. By contrast, water heating is the main source of emissions, generating 32% of greenhouse gases.
As far as power expenditure on other appliances is concerned, while only 15% of energy is spent, it is ranked second in terms of greenhouse gas production, accounting for 28% of total output. Energy use for refrigeration, cooling, and lighting only make up much smaller proportions of the energy spent, namely 7%, 2%, and 4% respectively. Similarly, only small percentages of household greenhouse gas release are attributed to these uses.
