The pie charts give information about the percentage of energy consumed and the greenhouse gas emitted from using this energy in an Australian family household.
It is clearly seen that heating and water heating account for a significant amount of energy used. Meanwhile, most greenhouse gas emissions are the result of water heating and other applications.
Heating and water heating are the two largest consumptions for energy, at 42% and 30% respectively. The other energy is primarily used for other appliances, at 15%, and refrigeration at 7%. While the proportions of energy consumed for lighting and cooling are both very small, adding up to just 6% of the total use.
Water heating is the main culprit of greenhouse gas emissions, making up 32% of the total. The second largest figure for emissions comes from other appliances, at 28% of total discharge. However, heating is only responsible for 15% of total emissions which is roughly the same as refrigeration. The remaining 11% results from lighting and cooling.
