The first chart provides the results of a survey with a sample size of 100,000 people, enquiring if have travelled abroad and why they travelled, during 1994 to 1998. The second chart illustrates the areas they have travelled to in that period.
Overall, most of the people involved in the survey travelled abroad for holidays over the given period. The second most reported reason for travel was business followed by visiting friends and family. Furthermore, throughout the given period, the most visited place was Western Europe.
The total number of visits abroad decreased by a small margin from 22,072 in 1994 to 21,610 in 1995 but then began to steadily increase up to to 28,828 in 1998. Holiday was the reason that accounted for most of the visits, followed by business in second place and visiting family and friends in third place.
The area most visited during this period was Western Europe. Its popularity grew among people over time from almost 19000 people visiting in 1994 to just under 25000 people in 1998.
