The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumption in two different countries.
The line graph provides information about the use of water by different sectors over the world between 1900 and 2000, while the table gives data on water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000.
Overall, it can be seen that the amount of water was used by Agriculture was dominant, whereas Domestic sector used the lowest amount of water. And water consumption in Brazil was far higher than the Congo.
Looking at the line chart in more detail, it is clear that use of water by Agriculture stood at around 500 km3 in 1900. Water use by this sector grew steadily and it crossed 1000 km3 in 1950. Then, the amount of water which was used for agricultural needs increased dramatically and it reached at around 3000km3 in 2000, which was the highest point on the chart. On the other hand, water use by industrial sector and domestic sector started at only 1 km3 and 2 km3 respectively in 1900. The use of water for these sectors remained constant at their initial value until 1950. Then, there was a slight increase of water use in domestic sector reaching to about 100 km3 in the final year . Similarly, water use by industrial sector increased abruptly to around 800 km3.
Moving on to the table, it is evident that 359 m3 of water was consumed by per person in Brazil, as compared to 8 m3 in Congo. In Congo , just 100 m2 land was irrigated by water whereas in Brazil it was 26,500 km2.
