The graph and table below give information about water use worldwide and water consumptionin two different countries.
The chart describes about global water usage divided by sector over a period of 100 year, while the table gives comparison about water consumption between two different countries.
Overall, the consumption increased over the period with majority of water was used for agriculture. It is demonstrated clearly with the comparison with the case of Brazil and Democratic Republic of Congo.
In 1900, the global consumption for agricultural was around 500 km3 and this number kept rising significantly to reach over 1500 in 1960. Meanwhile, industry and domestic usage remained at a relatively low level around 100 for a period of 60 years until started to increase in 1960. From 1960, agricultural consumption rose dramatically to nearly doubled up in 2000. Industry also witnessed a significant climb from 250 to peak at 1000 km3 while domestic use only increased gradually to around 300 by the end of 2000.
It is demonstrated with the case of Brazil which had the average consumption about 359 m3 per person on the total of 176 million, meanwhile the figure was tremendous lower with only 8 m3 in 2000. It is reasonable for 26,500 kilometre square irrigated land of Brazil compared with only 100 km2 belong to Congo.
