Given is a line graph illustrating the figure for the average price of food and oil in the world over the period of 11 years since 2000. In general, it is evident that average price of both food and oil rose strongly between 2000 and 2011. Besides, the number of food price reached the peak in the year 2011, and that of oil price was the highest in 2008.
In the year 2000, the average global oil price was close to $25 per barrel, and the food price stood at just under 90 points. Over the following 4 years, both prices remained stable, before rising steadily between 2004 and 2007. A dramatic increase in both commodity prices was seen from 2007 to 2008, with oil prices reaching the peak of approximately $130 per barrel and the number on food price rocketing to 220 points. However, the figure for oil dropped dramatically in 2009, and this year, that of food price witnessed a huge decrease. Finally, in 2011, the average oil price rose once again, to nearly $110 per barrel, while the food price index peaked at almost 240 points.
