Overall, the birth rates of both countries saw upward trends in spite of some fluctuations over the period of 80 years. The figure for the US was higher than that of China in most years shown.
In 1920, the birth rate of China was 10%, while that of the US was slightly higher, at about 11%. The figure for China fluctuated during the years and increased to 15% before sharply dropped to 5% in the 1940-1945 period. Similarly, there was a marginal fluctuation in the American birth rate before reaching the lowest point of under 5% in 1945.
The noticeable feature is that China witnessed a dramatic rose in birth rate and overtook the figure of the US to hit the peak of 20% by 1950. In this same period, the rate in the US also climbed, but lower, at 15%. These two rates then all fell significantly over the rest of the period, at around 2% and 7% in China and the US, respectively.
