The graph below compares figures for the production and consumption of energy in the US from 1950 to 2000. It also predicts figures for 2025.
The given diagram provides a comparison of the amount of energy consumed and manufactured in the US over a 50-year period even a prediction for 2025.
From an overall perspective, it is apparent that the production and consumption of energy experienced a fluctuated trend over the years shown and projections will witness a gradual increase in their volume.
Now getting back to the details, it is noticeable that both used and produced energy met the same record in 1950 which accounted for more than 25 quadrillions BUTs. Subsequently, from 1950 to 1975, the imported energy varied greatly and had declivity in this number. Despite the oscillation throughout the period, these amounts still had the same pattern in 1975, which was around more than 50 quadrillion BUTs, and there is no energy imported in this year. Following that, the US energy consumption dramatically raised from 60 energy units in 1975 to nearly 100 energy units in 2000 while US energy production just merely grew by 15 units.
In the 2000s, both factors observed an increment in their number. The US energy consumption raised remarkedly by 35 units after 20 years while the US manufactured energy just raised from 65 units in 2000 to 15 units in 2020. In 2020, the energy units for import activity occupied for 45 units in one nation. Based on the prediction, it is conspicuous that the energy usage will stand at 140 units which more than double when compared with the energy supply and the energy for import will rocket by 20 units at the end of the period.
