The graph below gives the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by train, car and bus

The line graph illustrates the average number of vehicles used by UK residents to get to work between 1970 with predictions to 2030.

It can be seen from the chart that, the number of people choosing to use trains and cars tends to increase and continue to increase, while the number of people choosing buses is gradually decreasing and will continue to decrease in the future. In particular, cars are the vehicle with the highest number of users.

Between 1970 and 2020, there was a sharp rise in the number of cars used by UK residents to get to work, it rose from 5 million to 7.5 million. It is also the most chosen means of transportation for residents, the number of people using it is higher than buses and trains. From 2020 with predictions to 2030, it still tends to growth possibly up to 9 million.

Besides, trains are also gradually used more and more by people from 1970 to 2020, but not as high as cars. It has increased from around 2 million to 4 million and will likely rise to 5 million by 2030. On the other hand, buses are gradually losing popularity as they have steadily decreased by 1.5 million people from 4 million people in about 50 years starting from 1970, and will continue to decrease by another 500 thousand people until 2030
