The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with the projections until 2030.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The graph compares the amounts of energy consumed by the United States from 1980 to 2030.
Overall, fossil fuels such as petrol, oil, coal and natural gas are the main energy that the Us has relied on. Nuclear and renewable energy are all insignificant sources.
In 1980, 35 quadrillion units of energy consumption came from petrol and oil. Coal and natural gas were responsible for 16 and 20 quadrillion units respectively. Lastly, nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower energy was equal 4 quadrillion.
Fluctuating in some initial years in this period, energy from petrol and oil has increased steadily. It is predicted to reach 47 quadrillions in 2030, becoming the most sustainable fuel source throughout the whole period. The amounts of energy consumed from coal and natural gas are almost similar. However, while the figure for coal will increase gradually, energy from natural gas is expected to keep constant at 27quadrillion. The nuclear and solar/ wind energy usage will have a marginal growth of 6 and 8 quadrillion. Hydropower consumption had a slight rise in the first 15 years of the period, but it is an unstable fuel and will stay at 4 quadrillions from 2012 and then.
