The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USAsince 1980 with projections until 2030
The chart compares the amount of energy consumed for six different fuel products in America during a period of 50 years starting 1980.
Overall, it is evident that the number of energy consumption for petrol and oil is highest than that of others over the period shown. Also, while the energy consumption for Hydropower fall slightly, there are gradual increases for petrol and oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear and solar/wind.
In 1980, petrol/oil which was highest, at 35 quadrillion units, compared with 20 and around 16 for natural gas and coal respectively. The numbers of consumption for nuclear, solar/wind, hydropower were same, at about 4 quadrillion units by 1980.
In 2030, the amount of use for petrol and oil is predicted to rise to about 45 quadrillion units, while the figures are anticipated to go up to 30, 25, 6 and 8 for coal, natural gas, solar/wind and hydropower respectively. In contrast, the consumption for hydropower is expected to decline to over 2 quadrillion units by 2030.
